After an outstanding response to the inaugural Australian Godolphin Stud and Stable Staff Awards in 2015, nominations are open for 2016.

Staged in association with Thoroughbred Breeders Australia (TBA) and Racing Australia (RA), the awards recognise the hard work and dedication of those who occupy what are often behind-the-scenes roles that are nevertheless vital to the industry.

Building on the success of last year’s awards, the 2016 edition offers prizes in six categories, carrying a total prize-pool of $100,000 and is open to the entire staff of every racing stable and every stud in Australia.

The 2015 awards were supported by breeders across Australia along with all of the country’s major racing stables, including that of Sydney’s leading lady of racing, Gai Waterhouse who applauded the recognition they give to the men and women who are the backbone of the racing and breeding industries.

“The work of people in racing stables and on stud farms can never be underestimated, without them the industry couldn’t function,” Waterhouse said.

“For them to be recognised by these awards gives a great lift to morale. My stable is right behind them.”

Waterhouse was joined by international trainer David Hayes, another strong supporter of the initial awards.

“Everyone sees what goes on at the front line of racing, so it’s great that everyone else who makes it happen is acknowledged,” Hayes said.

Henry Plumptre, Managing Director for Godolphin in Australia, joined in the support of the awards: “Godolphin is proud to be able to reinvest back into the grass roots of the Australian racing and breeding industries. It is important to be able to recognise dedication and pursuit of excellence and to reward it with something meaningful.

“Godolphin is delighted to continue its sponsorship.”

The winner of each of the six main categories will receive a cash prize of $10,000 each and a trophy. The runner-up in each of these categories will receive $1,000 each and an additional $3,000 also goes to the winner’s yard or stud.
